Why I Don’t Design to Fill Every Corner
One instinct I see very often is this — every corner needs to be used.
A chair here, a plant there, maybe a shelf or a décor piece… just so the space doesn’t feel “empty.”
But I’ve never looked at corners that way.
Not every space is meant to be occupied.
In fact, some of the most important areas in a home are the ones that are left untouched. They give the rest of the space room to breathe. They create pauses between functions. And more importantly, they allow your mind to feel at ease without constant visual engagement.
When every corner is filled, a space starts to feel crowded — not physically, but mentally.
I prefer to treat corners as moments of balance. Sometimes they hold something meaningful. And sometimes, they simply exist as they are.
That restraint is what keeps a space from feeling overdone.
Because a home doesn’t need to prove that every inch is designed.
It just needs to feel right as a whole.
And often, what you choose not to place becomes just as important as what you do.
