Why I Don’t Finalize a Design Too Early
There’s always a moment in every project where everything looks ready.
The layout is clear. Materials are selected. The space starts making visual sense. And that’s usually where most people feel the design is “done.”
For me, that’s where I slow down.
Because design decisions made too early often come from clarity on paper, not from real understanding. A space may look resolved, but it hasn’t been experienced yet.
I prefer to sit with the design a little longer.
To question small things —
Does this feel natural?
Is this too forced?
Is there a simpler way to do this?
Sometimes, the best decisions come after stepping back, not pushing forward.
I’ve noticed that when you give a design a little more time, unnecessary elements start revealing themselves. You begin to remove instead of add. And what remains feels more honest.
Rushing creates completeness.
But patience creates clarity.
And in the end, a space should not feel like it was quickly finished.
It should feel like it was carefully understood.
