Why I Design Spaces That Don’t Reveal Themselves Immediately
Not every space needs to impress in the first five seconds.
In fact, I often design with the opposite intention.
Today, we’re so used to instant reactions — something that looks good immediately, photographs well, and gets attention quickly. But I don’t think a home should work like that.
A well-designed space should unfold slowly.
The first time you walk in, you may notice the overall calm. The second time, you start observing the details — the way materials meet, how light touches a surface, how nothing feels out of place. And over time, you realise how effortlessly the space supports your daily life.
That depth doesn’t come from adding more.
It comes from being intentional with less.
I consciously avoid over-explaining a space through design. Not everything needs to be obvious. Some elements are meant to be discovered, not displayed.
Because when a space reveals itself gradually, it stays interesting. It doesn’t exhaust itself in one glance.
For me, that’s a more honest way of designing.
Not for a moment —
but for a long-term experience.
